It’s possible that anyone will be able to upgrade their edition to the digital deluxe if they want to. All they’ll have to do is purchase the deluxe add-on content from the PlayStation Store. This allows everyone to get in on the bonuses available in the game.

What is Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart?

The game is the latest entry in the series, but it’s also a completely new one in terms of mechanics. The last game was a remake of the original built to support the movie. It wasn’t as true to the core source material as it probably could have been, and as a result, it’s a poor remake overall. Rift Apart brings things back to the core gameplay of Ratchet and Clank and really doubles down on it.

In Rift Apart, a mysterious series of events has led to the universes colliding together. There are dimensional portals everywhere. Players will be able to use these to shift through one dimension, or across several. Ratchet learns this in the game’s opening, and he and Clank are quickly separated. From there, it’s a desperate dash for the pair to reunite and find a way to seal the dimensions off from one another before things get too unstable.

What is the Ratchet and Clank Series?

There’s a lot that makes up a Ratchet and Clank game. In this section, we’re going to explore it all so that you have a better understanding of what to expect from Rift Apart.

Platforming

First and foremost is platforming. These games have a lot of it, requiring you to work your way from one end of a level to the other using a fairly linear path. The beauty of these games is that you can return to levels and unlock new paths as you acquire new equipment. This will be even more true in Rift Apart, since it brings in planets from older games, adds new ones, and even has additional dimensions to explore.

While we don’t know the extent of the platforming in this game, it looks as though it will be at least as good as it is in the others. Puzzles form part of the world, and these will force you to think strategically about how you move through each area. Some parts will of course be more on-rails sections such as grinding, but there’s a lot of variety out there to be had.

Combat

Another core part of any Ratchet and Clank game is combat. Rift Apart is packed with insane weapons to use, and the familiar upgrade formula should also be in place. This sees your weapons upgrade as they earn experience, usually up to three levels. Each level will unlock a new ability for that weapon, making it slightly more effective at killing in the way it’s specialized.

You upgrade weapons in Ratchet and Clank by using them. The more you throw a grenade or shoot a gun, the better it’ll get. It’s like earning experience on characters in Final Fantasy. The only difference here is that the weapon upgrades, not the character. It feels incredible as you play. In this way, Ratchet goes from being underpowered to overpowered by the end of the game. It also adds hours of play time just shooting enemies.

Combat is also likely to be enhanced by Clank, though we’ll have to wait and see how he plays in when the game is out.

Puzzles

The final pillar of any Ratchet and Clank games is puzzles. These always revolve around the game’s major theme, so that will be dimensions in Rift Apart. It’s likely that we’ll need to travel through dimensions to solve puzzles. Whether that sees you activate switches in other worlds and travel back remains to be seen. Our best guess is that puzzles will be pushed to the max here. You can do a lot with them when you can travel to a new world in seconds. This should make for some of the best puzzles ever seen in the series. With the trio of characters on offer to complete these puzzles as well, they can only be bigger and better than before.

Dimensions

Dimensions are totally new to Rift Apart. The developers have made it possible to travel to what amounts to an entirely new planet in seconds. This means no load times, just pure gameplay. With this in mind, this game should be very different. We predict that everything will play into this. Combat already looks like it will shift as you use dimensions to move around. Traversal has been drastically impacts as you pull into rifts. There also looks to be pocket areas through portals almost everywhere. We expect a lot of bonus features in these locations.

That’s all you need to know about the Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart release date and more before launch. We hope that it’s enough to keep you excited about the game. This will be the culmination of everything there is in the entire series. You should expect everything to be better than before, with few exceptions apart from game-specific features. Things like time travel and shrinking might not be here, but everything else certainly is. IF you’re on the fence about the game, give it a go. This is a series brimming with possibilities. you won’t regret having something this good-looking on your PS5, so jump in and play it already.
