Kiki is a black cat Villager in Animal Crossing: New Horizons who has the normal personality type. As a cat Villager, she does look a bit strange with her pointy ears, but her magic more than makes up for it. Of course, she isn’t actually magic, but being a black cat it can only really be assumed that she’s related to witches in some way. In this Animal Crossing: New Horizons Kiki Villager Guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Kiki, including some facts that you won’t have read before.

Who is Kiki?

Kiki is a black cat Villager. She’s actually appeared in every Animal Crossing game to date, and her name has a lovely origin. It’s thought that it comes from the Studio Ghibli movie, Kiki’s Delivery Service. Kiki isn’t the name of the cat in that movie, but Kiki has a black cat, so this would make sense. The film is about a young witch finding her place in the world, a new town to call home where she can carve out a living and help the community. The cat in the film is called Jiji, so there’s no resemblance there. However, at one point the cat does need to pretend to be a toy. This makes him turn into a statue that looks a lot like Kiki the Villager.

One other theory is that Kiki is the sound you make when trying to say kittykat too many times incredibly fast. This seems unlikely, but it would avoid copyright infringement. Finally, her phrase is a reference to the common poster of a cat hanging on a washing line with the words “Hang in There” written below.

Birthday

Kiki’s birthday is on October 8. On this date, she’ll be hanging out in her home, celebrating with any Villagers that pop by to see her. You can head over and celebrate with her, and we recommend that you do. You’ll be able to play a game with her and the other Villagers on your island. There’s also a chance of picking up some cake from this event as well. If you do, save it and use it later in your game. It’ll come in handy when you’re building your island.

The best thing about a birthday is the chance you have to boost your relationship with a Villager. By giving them a present, you’ll increase your status with them. They will probably give you a gift in the next few days to say thank you, even if it’s not your birthday. This is really important when you’re trying to get a good standing with a Villager. Don’t waste the opportunity.

Kiki’s Personality

A big part of this Animal Crossing: New Horizons Kiki Villager Guide is Kiki’s personality. The normal personality type is a really great one to have on your island. These Villagers are often kind to the player, and you’ll get a lot of gifts of them as a result. Even without gifts, it’s nice to have Villagers who don’t try to annoy you walking around. This personality type wakes up at 6AM every day. If you’re an early riser and like to play the game at that time, you’ll see Kiki walking around. It’s great because it feels like you have company whenever you decide to play.

Kiki probably won’t get on well with cranky and sisterly Villagers. They tend to rub each other the wrong way. One last thing you’ll notice about Kiki is her friend Moppina. You’ll never see them, but Kiki will often talk about them. This is something all normal Villagers do, and the reality is that this friend is actually a mop. They’re not an unforeseen Villager at all.

Kiki’s Appearance

Kiki’s appearance is a big part of who she is. She’s black all over, with massive wide eyes that make her look exactly like Jiji from Kiki’s delivery service. She wears a lovely jumper that also makes her look a lot more like Jiji. However, this is just because it looks like a jumper that Jiji would wear, rather than it being an exact replica. The insides of her ears are purple, and her bright eyes provide a focal point to look at her with. It’s a good contrast from the rest of her appearance. Otherwise, she’d simply be black all over and impossible to see.

Kiki’s House

The exterior of Kiki’s house is brilliant. It’s not as standard as the most basic houses look, but it doesn’t have too much personality slapped on it either. It’s a really great middle ground. You can see the yellow walls and colors of her jumper coming through, and it all basically feels like a normal but not boring house.

Inside, the house is incredibly unique. It’s got orange wallpaper and some classic wooden furniture. There’s also a piano and a large copper pot that make it look slightly more like the house a witch’s cat would live in. Although it’s impossible to know what that would look like for sure.

Facts About Kiki

There are quite a few fact to learn about Kiki. As a Villager, she’s got some surprising depth to her. For example, right now she has circular eyes, but they were oblongs in previous games. They were also circular in the original game, which could indicate developers looking back to redesign Villagers in subtle ways. This might also be something that the community were very vocal about, but we’ll never know.

The rest of the facts about Kiki all relate to the Studio Ghibli film that she’s inspired by. It’s a brilliant film that we thoroughly recommend watching. In it, Jiji is one of the best characters. He spends the majority of the film complaining about things, which is very different to how Kiki is here. Clearly, the developers were big fans of this film, which is why Kiki exists at all. This happened at the inception of Animal Crossing too, so it’s always been this way. You’ll have to keep an eye out to see if there are any other Villagers inspired by Studio Ghibli movies.
