Dead by Daylight Bloodlust is just one of the many mechanics in play in the game. I was introduced in patch 1.05, and specifically relates to all of the game’s Killers. If you’ve been seeing a lot of perks or items that grant you Bloodlust, then this is what they mean. Various items provide this perk at different levels, so it’s down to you to balance the ones you want to make the most of.

Bloodlust increases the Killer’s movement speed during a prolonged chase. This is designed to shorten the overall chase time for Killers who are struggling and need this perk activated. Like all perks, this one has three tiers to it.

Bloodlust Tiers

  • In Tier 1 – Gain a +0.2 m/s speed bonus after a chase of 15 seconds.
  • With Tier 2 – Gain a +0.4 m/s speed bonus after a chase of 30 seconds.
  • For Tier 3 – Gain a +0.6 m/s speed bonus after a chase of 45 seconds.

How to Gain Bloodlust in Dead by Daylight

You can charge Bloodlust whenever you chase a survivor as the Killer in a match. It’s important to note that this must be a continuous chase, with no interruptions. If the chase lasts as long as is indicated in any of the tiers above, then you’ll gain the appropriate bonus to speed.

If you lose sight of a survivor, even for a second, it’ll result in Bloodlust being removed from your overall speed. This will see you slow down and get further away from the survivor you’re chasing.

Likewise, if you fall too far behind a survivor whilst chasing them, Bloodlust can be toggled off. This is because the game will perceive your distance as too far for a chase. Be careful to always stay close enough while chasing a survivor, or this could happen to you.

A chase with a survivor is initiated whenever a survivor starts springing within 12 metres of you. Most survivors will start springing as soon as they see a Killer, so it’s important to sneak up on them whenever possible. This will ensure that the chase is activated, and Bloodlust is triggered.

How to Lose Bloodlust in Dead by Daylight

It’s just as easy to trigger and gain Bloodlust as it is to lose it entirely Aside from the methods you can lose it that we mentioned above, you can also lose Bloodlust in these ways.

When you hit a survivor with any sort of attack, your Bloodlust will be lost and your speed will reset to normal. This is because you have a period of being staggered after a successful hit. This will also happen if you destroy a pallet. This action also causes you to stop and take a period of time to attack something, so Bloodlust is reset for both.

When Doesn’t Bloodlust Apply in Dead by Daylight?

There are two instances that will cause Bloodlust to be toggled off. The perk doesn’t apply to either of them, so the Killer’s speed is reset to normal in both circumstances. This is the case when the Killer uses their power, or when a survivor stops sprinting and walks. When a survivor walks, it stops them sprinting, which is a requirement for chases and therefore Bloodlust. Any use of a Killer’s power will slow the Killer down, which also ends the chase, and therefore Bloodlust.
