While playing through Demon’s Souls, on the PS3 original or the PS5 remake, you’ll butt heads with Old King Allant. This boss is mythic in its appearance, but unfortunately, that doesn’t make it any less difficult. Since it’s close to human size as well, you know it’s going to be a pain in the ass. In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about killing this boss without being defeated over and over again.

Attacks

This boss has a lot of attacks. So strap in and get ready for a long list of ways in which you’ll be destroyed.

The boss will growl to telegraph his most common attack. It’s an overhead slash which then leads to a thrust at the player, followed by yet another slash. It’s a devastating attack, and it really will hurt.

The next attack is a sword smash. This seems to be a rage-induced attack, and will cause a shockwave that can hurt you if you’re not paying attention. Dodge out of the way and get in for some hits afterwards.

Moving on, we have another three hit combo. The boss is going to swing his sword three times, and each time he does it’ll release a shockwave. Dodge away from this because it will only lead to you dying.

Now we come to the Soulsucker move. You’ll see it because the boss will charge energy in his left hand. He’s then going to reach out and grab you with that hand. If it lands, it’ll deal colossal amounts of damage, and it’ll knock you down by one soul level. As with every attack, dodge to avoid if you can.

Old King Allant also has a jump attack. It’s nothing fancy, but it hits like a train. The boss will launch himself into the air and land an attack on you if you don’t move out of the way.

The boss also has a very powerful attack that he barely telegraphs. He’ll do a single step backwards, and then cause a huge shockwave to emit from his sword. If you see him step back at all, get out of the way because this is coming.

The final attack that Old King Allant will unleash is a double shockwave. He’ll plant his sword in the ground, growl, unleash a small shockwave, and then unleash a second much larger one. This can get you pretty much anywhere you are, so dodge at the correct time to avoid taking any damage at all.

Tactics

The absolute best tactic for taking on this boss is to do it from a distance. Use ranged attacks or magic. Up close, this boss will destroy you. If that’s all you can do, then you’ll need to master dodging at the right time.

This is the boss that really puts your damage avoidance to the test. If you’re not on the top of your game, you’ll be beaten over and over again. Try to mix things up with some ranged attacks such as fire bombs. However, magic is almost certainly the best way to attack here.

Lore

Old King Allant is driven by a lust for power. He made a pact with The Old One, and became a demon shortly after. You’ll come to know this boss as ‘The False King’ because it’s not the real King Allant. With the power from The Old One, King Allant forged a sword in his own image. This is the demon that you face, and the one that led armies against Boletaria.

That’s everything you need to know about killing this boss. If you’re struggling with other bosses in the game, check out the following guides for: Phalanx, The Armored Spider, The Penetrator.
