When Fall arrives in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there’s a new kind of resource for all players to collect and use in recipes. It’s also possible to sell this resource, and they’re worth a lot of Bells if that’s what you’re doing with them. I’m talking about Rare Mushrooms of course. These are only available at a specific time of year, and they’re hard to find. Our guide to Rare Mushroom Animal Crossing is as follows.

You’ll find Rare Mushrooms in Animal Crossing: New Horizons during Fall. They spawn when your island rating is four or five stars, no lower. You can find them at the base of trees, but they must be dug up in order to be preserved.

As I’ve outlined above, there are two requirements for getting Rare Mushrooms to spawn on your island. The first is that you need to have an island star rating of either four or five stars. These are the highest star ratings you can achieve, but they take a lot of work in order to get there. You need to have the right kinds of Villagers on your island, and the best-looking combination of flowers and objects scattered everywhere.

Once you’ve got that four or five star rating, it’s time to wait until Fall. For those of you who don’t know, Fall is another word for Autumn. In the Northern Hemisphere this will be around October and November. In the southern Hemisphere it will be earlier, towards the first few months of the year.

You can tell if it’s Fall because the leaves on the trees will start turning. Your island’s grass will be turning orange, and everything will look much more autumnal.

Dig Up Rare Mushrooms

Rare Mushrooms need to be dug up. You’ll need to look for a digging prompt on the floor within one tile of a tree. These sometimes have Fossils in when they appear elsewhere on your island. Here though, they might just be Rare Mushrooms.

Only five Mushrooms will spawn on your island each day. If you’ve dug up five already, stop and wait until the next day to start digging again. This might seem like a time-consuming task, but it’s very much worth it.

Sell, Sell, Sell

There is only one DIY recipe that you can make with Rare Mushrooms. Once you’ve made it, you can sell the rest you find for loads of Bells. Each one is worth 16,000 Bells, which is definitely enough to justify your digging time.

You might think that digging for Mushrooms isn’t worth doing, but if you think about it, it’s one of the most worthwhile hobbies in the game. The Rare Mushrooms are worth thousands of Bells, meaning you can fast track other purchases later in the game. It’s also only possible to dig for Mushrooms in Fall. For the rest of the year, three whole seasons, you won’t be able to get them.

Don’t miss out on a chance to get rich very quickly here. Invest your time in collecting Rare Mushrooms, and reap the rewards your island is offering you.
