Melquiades the Exhumed Archbishop is the seventh boss that you’ll be facing off against in Blasphemous. He’s a huge skeleton who has been dressed in robes and expensive colours by his followers. Make no mistake, the fact that he’s lounging around doesn’t mean he’ll be an easy fight. In fact, he’s one of the toughest bosses in the game. Our guide for how to defeat him is as follows.

Phase 1

As the boss fight starts, you’ll notice that Melquiades the Exhumed Archbishop is actually being lifted up by his followers. His weak point is his head, so you’ll need to be attacking it as much as you can, even whilst these followers are lifting him up higher and higher.

The key, when his followers are lifting him, is to attack their arms and legs. By doing this, they’ll fall, and drop the boss. This will let you get a good few hits in on his head, and keep the fight moving. The followers are going to defend themselves. Avoid their attacks, and you should be fine, just take it slow and steady.

As you attack those followers, watch out for the scepter that is being thrust in your direction. The boss doesn’t want you to attack the followers and will do all in his power to push you back. Those scepter strikes will knock you back, and give the followers the space they need to recover and lift the boss once more.

Finally, the boss has a second attack as part of this phase. It’s a beam that will emit from that scepter he keeps throwing around. You can tell where the beams will go because the boss will first close his fist. Then you’ll see multiple points of light all over the map. These are where the beams will be spreading to. Get out of the way of those beams, and you should be fine to jump back into the fight and attack.

Phase 2

Everything is very much the same for Phase 2, expect Melquiades the Exhumed Archbishop is far more ferocious. He’ll now bash the floor with his scepter multiple times. At the same time, he can summon beams to blast you on the map. You need to be very careful whilst this is going on, because it’s all to easy to get hit, knocked back, or just outright die.

You can remain at one end of the arena if you want to avoid all the attacks as they’re actioned. The only issue is that you won’t be able to inflict any damage of your own. You need to push agains this boss through the second phase. It might seem difficult, but if you do, you’ll take him down a lot faster and more efficiently than if you wait things out in the corner.
